Bob Dylan lyrics fetch £267,000 at auction
The handwritten lyrics for The Times They Are A-Changin' penned by acoustic guitar player Bob Dylan have sold at auction for $422,500 (£267,400).
It had been estimated the worn manuscript would go for between $200,000 and $300,000 when it went under the hammer at Sotheby's in New York but this figure was easily outstripped, reports BBC News.
The politically-charged lyrics to the song, which was the title track to a 1964 Dylan album, were eventually sold to art collector and hedge fund manager Matt Sender.
The purchase is not the only item of important musical history owned by Mr Sender, as he also possesses the guitar played by John Lennon at the time he first met Paul McCartney.
Earlier this year, the handwritten lyrics to Beatles track A Day in the Life managed to raise even more than the Dylan manuscript at auction, being sold for $1.2 million.
Dylan was named as the most revolutionary artist of the past century by Gibson last week.
The acoustic guitar player was praised for his "game-changing approach" to songwriting and his all-round artistic vision by the manufacturer after being revealed as the winner of the accolade.
