Blur guitarist finger-picks 'for raw sound'
Posted on 8th May 2009 12:23 to category Band / Celebrity News
Blur's lead guitar player Graham Coxon has revealed he has focused on finger-picking a lot in recent years in an attempt to develop really raw sound.
Speaking to the Sun, the 40-year-old musician claimed to be a big fan of the technique, which he utilises on his new album The Spinning Top.
"[Finger-picking has] been such an influence on me as the sound isn't too clean," Coxon remarked. "You can hear the wood and the guitar creaking."
The best acoustic music has this "raw quality" to it, he said, explaining that he finds a lot of the songs from this genre today to be "disappointing" because they are too "nice and sweet".
Dedicated to John Martyn and Davey Graham, The Spinning Top is Coxon's seventh studio album and will be released on Monday May 11th.
A month later, on June 13th, Coxon will begin his reunion tour with Blur at the East Anglian Railway Museum in Wakes Colne.
