Billie Joe Armstrong to appear in American Idiot musical
Electric guitar star Billie Joe Armstrong is set to appear in the American Idiot show currently running on Broadway.
Armstrong helped to create the stage show, which is based on Green Day's 2004 album of the same name, and will now star in eight performances as key character St Jimmy.
He will play the role from September 28th to October 3rd 2010 as a temporary replacement for actor Tony Vincent, who is taking a leave of absence for personal reasons, reports the Associated Press.
The story follows the trials of an antihero who leaves his suburban lifestyle and attempts to find himself in the big city.
Following his run on Broadway, Armstrong will rejoin the rest of his band as Green Day head out for a tour of South America in October.
The electric guitar player and his cohorts are to play shows in Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Costa Rica as part of their run of gigs.
