Behringer has advised electric guitar players to exercise restraint when using compression pedals.
The manufacturer currently offers products such as the CS100, which compresses louder signals and boosts lower signals to generate maximum sustain without compromising on sound quality or volume.
This means that guitarists are able to keep long notes going for much longer than they would be able to otherwise.
However, the company noted that while using Behringer stomp boxes can help musicians achieve a more attacking and percussive sound, they should not overuse them when performing.
"Governing dynamics is appropriate to a point," Behringer commented.
"But don't forget that interesting dynamics are also what makes a piece breathe and feel human."
Behringer added that bass guitar players may also benefit from using compression pedals, as the impact of heavy bass strings against a fret board can sometimes be very loud.
The company suggested that slap bass players in particular could find that compression enhances their sound.
