Beatles top popularity chart in US
A poll by Pew Research Centre found that while there were some variations in taste among different age groups, The Fab Four have strong cross-generational appeal.
The Liverpool band were said to be more popular among music lovers in the US than many American acts, including Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and The Eagles.
John, Paul, George and Ringo were widely credited with spearheading the so-called British Invasion, in which a number of electric guitar bands including The Rolling Stones and The Who dominated the US charts in the 1960s.
Pew Research Centre found that rock is now the most popular genre among every age group bar the over-65s.
