Beatles sell two million downloads in first week on iTunes
The Beatles' first week on iTunes has proved to be highly successful, with more than two million versions of the electric guitar band's various tracks purchased by users.
More than 450,000 copies of their albums were downloaded across the world, with a box set containing all their recordings making it to number ten in the US iTunes album chart.
The band's highest song to enter the British single charts at the weekend was Hey Jude, which made it to number 40.
Speaking last week, Sir Paul McCartney said he was delighted a deal had been done to allow Apple users to download the music of the Fab Four.
"It's fantastic to see the songs we originally released on vinyl receive as much love in the digital world as they did the first time around," said the bass guitar player.
His comments were backed up by drummer Ringo Starr, who joked he was glad that he would no longer be asked when The Beatles would be available on iTunes.
