Beatles' guitar expected to fetch 130,000 at auction

The custom-made guitar was used by both John Lennon and George Harrison.
Great deals on musical instruments
A rare, custom-made guitar once played by both John Lennon and George Harrison has been given a public viewing before going to auction.

The Vox guitar is expected to fetch upwards of 130,000 when it goes under the hammer in New York at Julien's Auction on May 18th, but prior to the event it has been put on public display in London until Saturday (May 11th).

It was made in 1966 and given to friend of The Beatles, Magic Alex, by Lennon himself and features a plaque on the reverse which reads "To Magic Alex, Alexi thank you for been a friend".

The unusual shaped guitar has a wood-finished body and is thought to be one of the very few guitars that have been played by both Lennon and Harrison during its life. It will be on display at the Stafford London hotel in St James's, London.

Both Beatles members have since passed away. Lennon met his untimely death in 1980 after being killed in New York while Harrison died in 2001 after a long battle with illness and was cremated at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
