Beatles and Coldplay memorabilia being auctioned to support Japan
EMI is running an online auction to raise money for the efforts of the Red Cross in Japan, with a host of memorabilia from top bands being made available via eBay.
A Steinway grand piano used at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios is among the items being sold to the highest bidder, while box sets from The Beatles are also up for grabs.
Beastie Boys have contributed a signed gold record for their Hello Nasty album, while 30 Seconds to Mars are offering a meet and greet package.
Other acts to contribute to the online auction, which is taking place through eBay, include Coldplay, Radiohead, Iron Maiden, The Chemical Brothers and Arcade Fire.
The bidding period opened earlier this week and will run until April 21st.
More than 8,000 people died in Japan when the country was hit by an earthquake and a tsunami, with 14,000 homes destroyed and 100,000 more damaged.
"Funds raised will be used towards helping the Japanese people recover from this devastating natural disaster over the coming months and years," said a statement from EMI.
Last weekend, a special concert to aid relief efforts in the country was held in London, with performances coming from Beady Eye, Paul Weller and Richard Ashcroft.
