Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson has said that he plans to retire from touring next year.

The singer and keyboard player, who is responsible for some of the catchiest pop tunes in music history, including classic like I Get Around, Good Vibrations and Wouldn't It Be Nice, announced that his London concerts at the Royal Festival Hall in September would probably be the last time he toured.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Wilson, 68 said that it as he was getting older it was becoming increasingly more difficult to tour.

He said: "As I get older it gets harder for me. But when I'm sitting down at the keyboard and my band's behind me, I can do it."

The composer, who has suffered from depression all his life, admitted that he still gets stage fright, all of which contributed to him becoming a recluse in the late 60s and 70s.

The Beach Boys, who were formed in 1961, came to symbolise the surf, cars and romance of 60s California. They were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 1988.
