Bastille score number one with new album
The South London quartet have built on the success of their first single, Pompeii, which climbed to number two in the singles charts and beat off competition from a number of famous artists to clinch the top spot.
Official Charts Company reported that Bastille were neck and neck with Stereophonics' latest offering, Graffiti On The Train, but managed to fend off the Welsh rockers. Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events also experienced a surge in sales in the run-up to Mother's Day.
Bastille remained 3,000 copies ahead of the Scottish singer who had to be content with third place after a hugely successful 2012.
Dan Smith, Bastille frontman, told OfficialCharts.com: "If it's [scoring a number one album] true then it's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. We are completely blown away by how many people have bought the album, and have no idea what to say."
The band formed in 2010 and released their first EP, Laura Palmer, in 2011. They are set to release a single of the same name later this year.
