Bass guitar player Hook gets 'new perspective' on Curtis
Peter Hook has revealed how he uncovered a new dimension to Joy Division's music while preparing a memorial gig for Ian Curtis.
The bass guitar player performed the Joy Division album Unknown Pleasures last night in Manchester, commemorating the 30th anniversary of Curtis' death.
Hook told NME that preparing for the memorial gig had brought out new levels of Curtis's music to him as he analysed it for the first time since it had been written.
"It has made me put his role in the band into a whole new perspective," he said, noting that he had finally understood various songwriting techniques the late singer and lyricist used.
He also revealed that he had been paying his respects to Curtis by visiting his grave earlier.
Hook is also busy at the moment with side-project Freebass.
The band, which also features Andy Rourke of The Smiths and Mani from Primal Scream, have recently announced details of a UK tour.Posted on 19 May 2010 15:30 to category : Music News
