Barry Manilow provides schools with truckloads of musical instruments
Singer Barry Manilow has donated five truckloads of musical instruments to schools in the Las Vegas area.
More than $500,000 (£314,000) worth of instruments have been handed over by the star as part of his Manilow Music Project, reports the Las Vegas Review Journal.
The Copacabana singer explained how his life had been turned around by music when he joined a school orchestra while he was growing up in a tough area of Brooklyn.
"It saved my life. It pointed me in the direction that I am right now," he stated. "It makes me happy we can do something like this. Maybe we can make a difference."
More than 600 students in 15 different schools are set to benefit from the donation.
Manilow is currently performing a residency at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas but is set to come over to the UK in May next year to play four dates at the O2 Arena in London.
