Barack Obama honours Paul McCartney
Posted on 3 Jun 2010 10:56 to category : Band / Celebrity News

Bass guitar player Sir Paul McCartney has been handed the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song at the White House.
The former Beatle was handed the prestigious honour by US President Barack Obama at a ceremony attended by luminaries such as Elvis Costello and Stevie Wonder.
McCartney performed a short set afterwards, in which he took the opportunity to serenade First Lady Michelle Obama with the 1965 Beatles song Michelle.
President Obama, who described Sir Paul as a legendary figure whose music has stood the test of time, did not appear to mind the romantic overtures.
However, the musician acknowledged before the song that he "could be the first ever guy to be punched out by a president".
Following The Beatles' split in 1970, Sir Paul formed Wings with ex-Moody Blues guitar player Denny Laine and his late wife Linda.
The band enjoyed a string of hits including Mull of Kintyre, Band on the Run, Jet and Let 'Em In.
