Bangles hailed as top female rock band
Posted on 19th Oct 2009 18:00 to category Band / Celebrity News
Electric guitar manufacturer Gibson has dismissed the suggestion that rock 'n' roll is solely the preserve of men.
According to the company, many female rock bands have made an impact comparable to that made by their male peers.
The Bangles were highlighted as one example, as they mixed "infectious melodies" with a sound that evoked bands such as The Yardbirds.
Gibson also singled out their All Over the Place album as one of the best albums of the mid-1980s and said it should be regarded as a classic.
The album was not as commercially successful as some of their later LPs, but did feature the award-winning single Going Down To Liverpool, which was written by Kimberley Rew of Katrina and the Waves.
"Women can rock with an authority that's every bit as explosive and genuine as that of their male counterparts," it commented.
The electric guitar company added that regarding rock 'n' roll as the "exclusive province" of men is very narrow-minded.
