BRIT Awards on the move
The BRIT Awards are moving to London's O2 Arena.
The music ceremony has been hosted at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre since 1998, but is making the switch to the new venue in 2011, promising a completely "different feel" to the annual event.
A source said: "The shape and dimensions of The O2 means it will have a different feel."
After 13 years at Earls Court, which has a capacity of 19,000, the BRITs will now be able to host 23,000 people at The 02 Arena - which has staged some of the biggest concerts in recent years, including Prince's incredible 21-night residency in 2007.
BRITs bosses made the call to move after deciding they wanted the ceremony to be based on an "arena event" in the future.
Earls Court Venues commercial director Anna Golden said in a statement: "EC&O Venues can confirm that The BRITs will not be staged at Earls Court in 2011, following the organiser's decision to change the format to an arena event. We are sad to see The BRITs move to a new venue after 13 very successful years at Earls Court but we'd like to wish the organisers the very best of luck going forward."
This year's ceremony took place on February 16 and was the event's 30th anniversary.
Robbie Williams took home the Outstanding Contribution to Music prize, while other winners included Lady Gaga, JLS and Oasis.Posted on 27 Jul 2010 10:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
