BBC launches search for 2012 Young Musician of the Year
Set to be hosted at the Doral Stoutzker Hall at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, the second round event will see 25 musicians competing in the category finals throughout March.
Five performers will showcase their talent in front of a panel of respected adjudicators, with category winners whittled down to just three finalists who will compete for the BBC Young Musician 2012 accolade in May.
BBC Young Musician series editor Paul Bullock explained: "We are thoroughly looking forward to welcoming a new wave of outstanding young musical talent to Cardiff for the next stage of the contest.
"Twenty five category finalists will enjoy the outstanding new facilities and the excellent acoustics of the Dora Stoutzker Hall that opened earlier this year."
This year's events leading up to the final will include performances from past winners, including violinist Jennifer Pike (2002), trombonist Peter Moore (2008) and percussionist Lucy Landymore (2010).
