Avid Everywhere - What Can We Expect?
Avid Everywhere - What Can We Expect?
Avid Everywhere is designed to help you create the highest quality, most inspiring content, be it music, video, film, notation and fuse the connection between creator and consumer more effectively. It's set to revolutionise the way we create, share and distribute music.

Avid President and CEO, Louis Hernandez Jr, said, "The media indusrty is going through a period of unprecedented change and needs a leader to step forward".

Avid are stepping forward with their vision for the future, Avid Everywhere. Their MediaCentral Platform is open, extensible and customisable, allowing users to streamline their workflow and integrate with others.

New Pro Tools cloud - opens up revolutionary collaborative possibilities. This enables you to work together with other Pro Tools users on the same music session or soundtrack in real time or offline from all across the world. Then, securely store your files on the cloud making them easily accessible from everywhere.

New marketplace - Connect with other professionals to promote, sell and license your work. This interactive, online audio community facilitates real connections in the industry, enables creation and supports commerce.

Tracking metadata - enabling you to manage and track your media. This universal metadata means you can document, manage, protect and track assets. Track all contributors and give proper credit and compensation, facilitate communication between creators, distributors and retailers and monetize media assets.

The foundation of Avid Everywhere is the Avid MediaCentral Platform. It doesn't require any additional purchase or to access or use, as it's built into the framework of many Avid products. It can be easily customised with the optional services and functions. This works in conjunction with Avid software from the Artist, Media and Storage Suites and the upcoming private and public marketplaces to address every aspect of the digital media chain.

Ultimately, Avid Everywhere is designed to:

  • Unify content creation, distribution, and monetization processes
  • Choose how, where, and when to deploy solutions with complete flexibility
  • Operate more efficiently
  • Work more collaboratively, from everywhere
  • Deliver higher quality, inspiring content
  • Deliver content across multiple platforms
  • Protect and optimize media asset value
  • Partner with broad and deep industry expertise

Avid Everywhere Preview

Avid outlined their vision for Avid Everywhere at NAB 2014.

Avid Everywhere has been suggested to be a revolutionary way of adapting to professional and consumer media needs by finding a new way to powerfully connect media organisations and their audiences.

In a document published by Avid, they say 'the need for innovative thinking in the industry is obvious' as we can access content from anywhere on our own terms and organisations have to keep up with our need for entertainment and information.

How will Avid help organisations to do this?

To start with, there's the release of the Avid S6, a next-generation control surface with a modular design and a completely integrated mixing experence for Pro Tools. The S6 is part of Avid Everywhere, the details of which are due to be fully revealed at NAB 2014.

S6 will give users more control over large session than ever, with detailed visual feedback and ergonomic mixing. The modular design incorporates a fader module, knob module, controls, automation and display.

The plain is to 'embrace seamless collaborative workflows', and give media professionals the tools they need to create, optimise, and distribute content together from wherever they are in the world. Cloud technology allows this to some extent, but for complex workflow environments to be available everywhere, there needs to be a single integrated platform.

At NAB 2014, Avid may reveal more details about this platform. We already know it will contain a suite of modular applications, a common interface across web, mobile and desktop devices, creative tools for editing and mixing and a robust data tracking system.

Is Avid Everywhere the future for the music industry?

Other companies seem to be agreeing with Avid that there must be an easy way to collaborate and share the working process. The recent launch of Bitwig Studio revealed that there would soon be a Network Sync function and an online collaboration feature, allowing users to compose on the same project from different locations.
