Arctic Monkeys set to shock NMEs
Posted on 26 Jan 2010 10:30 to category : Music News

Arctic Monkeys are up for seven accolades at this year's Shockwave NME Awards.
The 'Crying Lightning' hitmakers are in the running for Best British Band, Best Album Artwork, Best Live Band, Best Track, Best Video and Best Album and Worst Album for 'Humbug', while frontman Alex Turner is up for two additional awards - Hottest Man and Hero of the Year.
Fellow rockers Kasabian are the Monkeys' biggest rivals, with six nominations including Best Album for 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum'.
Alex, 24, said: "It's a good thing knowing we're still up for these awards. Kasabian have said that there aren't any other proper rock bands apart from us and them.
"I don't necessarily agree completely but I know what they're saying. I think we're just co-existing very nicely."
Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan said: "It's been a big year for us and being nominated at the NME Awards is the icing on the cake."
Despite splitting last year, Oasis are named in four categories, Best British Band, Best Live Event, Best Video for 'Falling Down' and the unwanted Worst Band slot.
Lady Gaga is up for Best Solo Artist and Hottest Woman, as well as Best Dressed and the 'honours' Worst Dressed and Worst Album.
US pop band The Jonas Brothers are up for Worst Band for the second year running, and face competition from Green Day, Paramore and JLS as well as Oasis.
This year's event takes place at The O2 Academy Brixton in London on February 24.
