Arctic Monkeys receive seven NME Award nods
Posted on 30 Jan 2012 16:00 to category : Music News

The 'Black Treacle' rockers have been given a nod for Best British Band, Best Album and Best Track for 'The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala' and drummer Matt Helders revealed the group are ''very happy'' to be recognised.
He explained: ''We're up for all the big ones - we're very happy. We had a lot of fun making 'Suck It And See' and it's great to be up for Best Live Band. That's all we do - record or play live - so it's good to be recognised!''
But they face stiff competition from Kasabian, who are up for three accolades including Best British Band and Best Live Act, while Muse are in contention for Best British Band and Best Live Band, despite not releasing an album since 2009's 'The Resistance'.
Other nominees for the event - which will be hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall and take place at London's O2 Academy Brixton on Wednesday February 29 - include The Horrors, who have been nominated for Best British Band and Best Album for 'Skying'.
Noel Gallagher is already in line to receive the NME Awards 2012 Godlike Genius Award and he has four nods, including Best Album for 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' and Best Solo Artist, which will see him do battle with Florence Welch's Florence + The Machine.
Florence - who is up for hottest female - said: ''I'd be so excited to win an NME Award - I've never won one! I've only been once to the NME Awards ceremony and it's the drunkest I've ever been at an awards ceremony. I'm very surprised you're having me back. Glasvegas gave me some Buckfast and that was that.''
