Anyone Can Play Guitar doc 'needs financial support of music fans'
A new documentary about the independent music scene in Oxford will be given a nationwide release if the director can raise enough money.
Filmmaker Jon Spira needs £30,000 to release the self-funded documentary Anyone Can Play Guitar professionally and is currently £6,000 short of the target, reports the Oxford Mail.
Narrated by comedian Stewart Lee, the film charts the rise of local bands such as Radiohead, Foals and Supergrass, as well as looking into the stories of those groups which didn't manage to attain the same level of success.
Spira said these acts are at the heart of what the film is about.
"The best music I have heard hasn't been what is played out on the radio, it has been in the upstairs room of some backstreet pub," he stated.
Anyone Can Play Guitar will be screened for the first time in Oxford in March.
Last month, Spira told the Music in Oxford website that one of the toughest challenges with the film was cutting more than 100 hours of interview footage down to make a 90-minute movie.
He said some of the extra material will be included on eventual the DVD release of Anyone Can Play Guitar.
