Antique cello returned safely
Rosy Hunt, a celebrated cellist, was momentarily distracted by her young daughter when an opportunistic thief snatched the $80,000 (approximately £51,257) musical instrument, reported the Herald Sun.
The rare French heirloom, which was acquired by Ms Hunt in the 1950s while she was a student in Paris, has accompanied the musician most of her professional life.
Although she was heartbroken, her fighting spirit was not diminished and she embarked on a campaign to find her beloved cello.
"It has performed with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, has toured internationally and has been used in some competition winning performances," she said.
"My adrenaline kept me going ... I just wanted it back."
Luckily, the instrument was returned in perfect condition and hadn't been damaged.
Meanwhile, last month it was revealed an aspiring cellist would be learning her trade on a 100-year-old violin.
Lauren Shireff has been loaned the instrument by the Tweed Music Centre, reported the Berwick Advertiser.Posted on 5 Jan 2012 10:25 to category : Instruments News
