Annie Lennox: The X Factor is a factory
The well-respected musician, who is known for being an activist, believes the hit talent show lacks the ability to produce a music star that can change the world and have real artistic credibility.
Speaking to Absolute Radio, she was adamant that the X Factor could never produce a musician who had the lyrical prowess of a poet or artists who wanted to make political comments in their songs.
"You wouldn't find Joni Mitchell on X Factor, that's not the place," she told the radio station.
"X Factor is a specific thing for people that want to go through that process, it's a factory, you know, and it's owned and stitched up by puppet masters."
The Eurythmics singer went on to say that she was a big fan of Adele, stating that she had a beautiful voice that is "resonant, heartfelt and nuanced".
An exhibition celebrating her work and contribution to the world is now on show at the V&A in London.
