Andre 3000 to play guitar hero Jimi Hendrix in indie feature
Andre 3000 may be set to star as guitar hero Jimi Hendrix in a biopic of the artist's life.
Hayley Atwell, who plays the leading lady in Captain America, told Esquire that her next project will be the biopic alongside the rapper – real name Andre Benjamin.
The OutKast rapper has been talking up his ability to play the role for a number of years, seemingly to no avail, but Atwell's interview with the magazine appears to indicate that he has secured the role.
In an interview with the Daily News seven years ago he said he was excited by the prospect of playing the guitar-playing hero.
"Jimi was wild onstage," he said. "Offstage, he was really calm."
Laurence Fishburne and rocker Lenny Kravitz have both attempted to bring the biopic to the big screen in recent years but both failed to secure the rights to the story.
Jason Derulo, who is currently No.1 in the UK Singles Chart with Don't Wanna Go Home, has confessed that he recently turned down the role of Jimi Hendrix preferring instead to focus on promoting his latest album.
He told MTV: "I really wanted to make sure it gets the exposure it deserves. It has to be heard by everybody. After this album, I will dive full-throttle into movies for a while. I will ultimately take a break from music."
