Amy Winehouse inquest could be illegal

Inquest could be illegal
The inquest into the death of Amy Winehouse could be declared illegal after concerns were raised about the experience of the coroner.

According to the Guardian, a judicial investigation has now been launched to establish the circumstances around the appointment of Suzanne Greenway, who took part in the hearing into the soul singer's tragic death at the age of 27 last year.

A verdict of misadventure was recorded in October 2011, with Ms Greenway concluding that Winehouse had died from alcohol poisoning.

She subsequently resigned from her position in November. It has since come to light that she was hired by her husband Dr Andrew Reid.

According to legislation, coroners can only be appointed to such position after being a member of the Law Society as a solicitor for five years. Ms Greenway joined two and-a-half years ago.

Winehouse's father Mitch told the Sun: "We were very shocked when we were informed the coroner was not suitably qualified. It's hard to believe her credentials weren't fully checked. You'd assume this sort of thing can't happen."
