Air guitar world record smashed
Posted on 2nd Jul 2009 15:00 to category Music News
The world record for the largest ever air guitar ensemble has been broken - just weeks after the previous record was set.
Last month, 440 music lovers at the Download festival in the UK entered the record books by thrashing out the chords to Motorhead's Ace of Spades on imaginary electric guitars.
However, the cast and crew of Rock of Ages - a musical currently being staged in New York - have outdone them.
More than 800 air guitarists participated in the world record attempt last night, which was observed by a representative of Guinness World Records.
The ensemble was made up the cast, crew and members of the audience, who spent two minutes rocking out to Don't Stop Believin' by Journey.
William Ocean, the US National Air Guitar champion in 2007, led the crowd through the song.
Speaking later, he told Broadway.com: "As a professional air guitar player, I can definitely say without a doubt that Broadway rocks."
