Advanced guitar students 'still need structured practice sessions'
Musicians who are starting to master the electric guitar should still make sure their practice sessions are properly structured.
This is the recommendation of guitar teacher Dave Jones, who told the Gibson website that advanced students need this level of discipline to help ensure that they are not simply playing the same songs over and over again.
By continually challenging themselves, they can improve their abilities on the electric guitar.
"My recommendation is a regular structured practice routine followed by free-play," said Jones.
"It is very important that the free-play is the last part of your practicing."
He added that one of the most effective learning strategies is going over new techniques at a slow speed.
It was suggested that this task should be carried out at least every six months and more frequently if possible.
