Adele lands biggest-selling record in the US
It is the second-consecutive year that the Skyfall vocalist has claimed this title, after 21 sold a staggering 4.4 million over the past 12 months, adding to the 5.8 million sold in 2011.
The past year has signified remarkable success for British artists across the pond in the US, with four of the top best-selling albums being made by artists from back home in the UK.
Adele took number one spot while One Direction and Mumford and Sons made up places three to five with the former scoring major sales with their Up All Night and Take Me Home records.
Keith Caulfield, associate director of charts at Billboard magazine, said: "She [Adele] really crossed over from pop to Latin to adult contemporary to dance. Young and old consumers bought it, and because of its mixture of fans, she was able to sell it as well as she did."
The Sunday People recently reported that Daniel Craig is thought to be keen on working with Adele for the next James Bond film.
