Acoustic guitar player backs legendary venue
Posted on 23rd Dec 2009 16:00 to category Music News
Ocean Colour Scene's acoustic guitar player has come out in support of the legendary Halfmoon in Putney, which is faced with the threat of closure.
Simon Fowler described the live music venue as a "really good place to play" and said there are very few places like it still in existence. However, the economic downturn has put the future of the establishment in jeopardy, prompting a backlash from thousands of music fans and artists.
Speculation is growing that the premises, which has played host to acts such as Kasabian and The Rolling Stones, is going to be turned into a gastropub.
"Like west London needs another gastropub," Fowler told the Surrey Comet.
He added that Young's, the company which owns the Halfmoon, should send someone to the venue to look at the walls and "see the heritage that is there".
"Then maybe they might understand," Fowler said.
Manager James Harris recently said the support he has received from the music industry, the press, the public and the venue's local MP has been overwhelming.
