Achitects Guitarist Tom Searle Dies From Cancer Aged 28

Architects guitarist Tom Searle has died from cancer aged 28-years-old.

Tom's twin brother Dan had revealed the news to the world on social media. On the band's official Facebook page he wrote: "It is with unbelievable pain and sadness that I have to announce that at around twelve minutes past midnight on August 20th my amazing brother, Tom, passed away after over 3 years living with cancer.

He was an incredible songwriter and guitarist. He was my closest and oldest friend. He was a funny, intelligent and sweet man and he leaves an enormous void in all of our lives."

It transpires that Tom had been fighting the illness for three years.

Tom and Dan had started playing in a band together since the age of 13. The band would later develop into the vastly popular and influential British metal band Architects.

Their rise to prominence had begun when they had started opening for fellow Brighton band, Johnny Truant on number UK tours. The touring schedule was quickly followed by their debut release Nightmares. The band continued to write and hone their talents, culminating in seven albums and numerous world tours.

Tom's style has been and is massively influential to a wide number of guitarists across the planet. He perfectly managed to add a lot of melody and unique tapping style riffs to accompany some incredibly heavy yet wholly accessible songs. Such style had paved the way and inspired a new generation of guitar players - None more so than Jon of Australian band Northlane, who, in the wake of the news, wrote:

"I am heartbroken to be writing this. Tom was a huge inspiration to me, both musically and personally and I always saw us as forever friends on opposite sides of the earth. I had a connection with Tom that I have not felt with many people throughout my life. His art came from deep within and it resonated with me instantly. He was an incredible person, and I feel extremely lucky to have known him. If it wasn’t for Tom Searle and Architects, there would be no Northlane. My thoughts are with Dan, Sam, Ali and Adam and the Searle family. Rest in peace Tom, I love you and miss you."

Architects confirmed that they will continue their tour arrangements for their latest album All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us but stated that they do not know what will become of the band afterwards.
