70s record rendition for Blackburn

Radio personality has discussed his excitement at the prospect of giving an airing to Chop Chop.

The radio personality Tony Blackburn – presenter of Pick of the Pops – has talked of his excitement at the prospect of giving an airing to the song Chop Chop next month.

The song is to be dusted off in a broadcast rendition by the presenter as part of a special Radio 2 event, the BBC has announced.

I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here winner Blackburn says it's been four decades since he last sang the number in public.

The BBC has not noted whether any music instruments will accompany Blackburn in his rendition, set to take place on the 10th of May when the 2Day occasion is to be held by Radio 2. He released the track as a single back in 1971, according to the BBC.

“I haven't performed it in front of an audience for about 40 years so I'm sure there'll be a few nerves mixed in with the excitement. But we have a great show lined up and it's going to be great fun,” Blackburn has said.

The BBC has stated that the presenter is set to appear in Blackburn on the 10th and that the famed textile town that shares his name will be the setting for his radio programme on that date.
