50 Cent puts on hold hip-hop making music software to write novel
Rapper 50 Cent has revealed that he had temporarily put his hip hop beat-making music software on hold write a novel aimed at young people.
Curtis James Jackson lll, as he is known outside of his rap moniker, penned the semi-autobiographical Playground as an exploration around bullying, which affects many children and young people.
In a statement released to mark the announcement of the book's release in January 2012, 50 Cent said he had "a strong desire" to write the novel.
He said: "This book would have been very helpful for me growing up and now that I have a teenage son, it is my goal that this will have a positive influence on all teenagers."
The novel will be published by Penguin Young Reader Group.
It's a new dramatic turn for the rapper, who is known for his "rags-to-riches" story.
The novel is the latest in example in a transformative career for the former street hustler, which has seen a new level of maturity emerge.
He has grown into a successful businessman and actor, even "going method" by losing a dramatic four stone for a role as a cancer-stricken American footballer.
He has sold over 22 million records worldwide.
