£3.1 Billion Generated By Music Tourism in UK
The report, helped reveal the vast contribution of music tourism to the UK economy. The report has brought an air of positivity for the industry and showing just how important music is within the UK.
Music tourism is believed to be adding to the overall happiness and wellbeing as well as helping the recovery of the UK economy. The figures speak for themselves with as some 9.5 million people travelled to music events and jobs sustained as a result of music tourism was at 38,238 in 2014.
Evidently, people from overseas are also wanting to participate in the richly cultural and diverse UK music scene with a 39% increase in music tourists between 2011 – 2014. Some nearly shelled out £1,000 when they camped out at a festival as part of their stay.
The report also takes a detailed look at some of the UK’s most reputable festivals including: Glastonbury, the Isle of Wight Festival and T in the Park in Scotland. To read the full report, click here.
Culture Secretary, John Whittingdale said: “It’s fantastic news that our music industry drew in 9.5 million tourists last year but it’s no surprise. British music is legendary around the world and continues to go from strength to strength….Festivals like Glastonbury hold an iconic status on the world music scene and are one of the reasons why international tourism is booming in the UK.
