Beyerdynamic DT770M Monitoring Headphones, 80 Ohm
— The DT 770 PRO is a closed dynamic headphone and has been designed for critical music and sound monitoring. The single sided cable makes the handling of the headphone easy. The cushion system allows the DT 770 PRO to be used comfortably for long periods of time.More details:
Difference between DT 770 PRO 250O and 80O: In general, headphones with low impedanz have mainly been developed for use with mobile devices. They mainly work with low power from batteries and this low power also limits the maximum power at the headphone output. A low impedance headphone can therefore play louder at an headphone output with limited power. Ok, well, what ist he use of high impedance headphones? The reason is a little complicated: the voice coil of a (dynamic) headphone system consists of coated copper wire. This copper wire is available in almost every possible length, but not in every gauge (thinner wire has a larger resistance as thicker wire). The magnetic field, which the voice coil must produce when receiving the audio signal depends amongst other things on the number of windings. For this reason a thicker (and also heavier) wire is needed for a low impedance headphone system and since the membrane also has a minimum weight, the moving mass (voice coil and membrane) is relatively high. It?s pretty clear that a higher mass can?t follow a complex audio signal as easy as a lower mass. The lower mass is easy to achieve with thinner (and light weight) wire, although the voice coil has a higher impedance due to the thin wire. This means that with identical headphones, the version with the higher impedance usually sounds more neutral, but doesn?t play as loud as the lower impedance version (depending on the headphone amplifier). The DT 770 PRO 80O has a straight cable (3m), it is for the usage as studio monitor headphones ? especially for instrumentalists. 80O systems are ideal for powerful reproducing of low-frequency material f.e. coming from a bass guitar. The stronger system and thicker membrane provides punchy and clear bass sound at high levels. The DT 770 PRO 250O system with its lighter voice coil and mass sounds more smooth and analytical. The application in studio would here be more in a mixing situation to analyse the whole mix. The coiled cable in this version is ideal to connect the headphone directly to any mixing desk without having any disturbing cable lying on the floor. Difference between DT 770 PRO - DT 770 (Edition 2005): The DT 770 PRO is designed for use in studio and on stage for professional use. The headband has a rugged construction (thicker material) and gives a secure fit for the listener. This provides a better fit and causes also a more powerful compressed sound which is necessary for professional applications in studio, OB and FOH. The DT 770 (Edition 2005) is designed for listening to music and relax. The headband provides a long wearing comfort for hours. The Hifi-version has a more transparent and open sound than the DT 770 PRO. The differences of both headphones are not huge in mechanical design, but only that small change causes a big difference in sound and application.
