What Does This Pedal Sound Like?

This pedal has no tone shaping. It is high-gain input-impedance preamps with a total gain that ranges up to 3600. Because there is no tone shaping, your guitar just sounds like a really loud version of your guitar, your amp sounds like a really big version of your amp, and if you set the pedal to high gains the normal tone will get somewhat very bloated.

  • Level 1:Both channels are off, your guitar is true-bypassed
  • Level 2:You turn on Channel 1
  • Level 3:You turn on Channel 2 and turn off Channel 1
  • Level 4:Your turn on both Channels

  • Channel 1:
    • This channel is a conventional Super Hard-On™, which is often referred to as the SHO. Its gain control is on the far right, and it's LED is yellow. If you are familiar with the SHO, you'll know that it's a very sparkly sounding high input-impedance preamp with incredible headroom, wide-ranging gain (unity to 60 X), and an extremely high maximum volume. Channel 1 has no Master Volume control, but it's cascaded into Channel 2.

  • Channel 2 and The Master Volume:
    • The Channel 2 has the same circuit as Channel 1, but a Master Volume control has replaced the bleeder resistor on the output, which allows the user to turn down the output volume even if the gain is set quite high.

The left knob is the Gain and Master Volume is the middle volume and the LED is red. When both channels are on, or just Channel 2, the Master Volume is active. If you leave the Master wide open, you have two identical SHO pedals in one box, which are cascaded.

  • Battery: 1x 9V battery - The low current operation of this pedal's circuit will give long battery life.

  • Current Draw: Approximately 3mA with both channels wide open. A DC power jack (standard Boss configuration with center negative) is provided on the side of the pedal. Use a high- quality 9V adaptor for all high-gain effects!

Please Note: The very high input impedance of this pedal can cause strange reactions when used with a vintage guitars. The solution is to simply lower the 'crackle okay' gain knob a little or leave the guitar volume wide open. Any problems will only occur at the highest gain settings with an unusual guitar.
