Z.Vex Box of Metal Hand Painted Guitar Pedal

The Vexter Box of Metal by Z.Vex is an aggressive high-gain pedal with a highly-effective built-in switchable gate which dramatically reduces noise and unwanted feedback. It’s tonal and gain characteristics are somewhat alike the high-gain tube amplifiers that have been the main staple of hard rock and metals sounds since the 80’s.

On the left is a gate switch which is only effective when the pedal is on. On the right, there is a true bypass switch with an indicator LED to bypass the complete effect. When the gate’s LED is on, the gate will be active whenever the pedal is turned on.

The juxtaposition of your direct guitar against the smashed, distorted, shimmering and warbling recording of the loop mechanism will make it clear once and for all where the guitarist ends and the machinery begins.

  • Controls:
    • Vol: loops volume, can get really loud if needed.

    • Tone: cuts noise and distortion. Makes the final sound of the loop rolled off and organ-like if necessary.
    • Rec: record volume. You can decide how loud to drive the recorder.
    • Depth: vibrato depth. Adjust for the level of pitch twisting that makes you happy.
    • Gain: sets the amount of distortion. It may crackle when turned but this is normal.

    • Speed: vibrato speed. Adjust for the speed that spins the sound around in a way that fits the music.

  • Buttons:
    • On the left: Bypass. When you turn this on the loop starts playing. When you stop it will give you pure silence, you have true-bypass.

    • On the right: The record switch. Hit this switch before you start recording a new loop. Switch it off on the exact same best when you finish recording you loop. If a mistake is made quickly hit it twice and you will be able to start again.

    • At the top right: the safety switch. This tiny switch allows you to save a favourite loop so it won't be accidentally erased.
