An Updated Reissue of the Legendary TS808

Maxon’s ST-9 Pro+ is heavily based on the old TS808, offing the same classic tones and feel but adding more output, gain and tonal options making it perfect for the contemporary player. Taking the core elements of the legendary pedal, Maxon then provided the ST-9 with a dedicated midrange control, allowing you to dial in the amount of midrange boost you require to create powerful distortions that are fat and heavy. Use the pedal to give your sound that full stack amp feel and create a range of distorted tones, from a bluesy overdrive to a powerful dirt box.

Powerful Circuitry and Features

At the heart of the ST-9 is a piece of circuitry based on the 808 and OD-9, delivering the classic rock and roll tone that can achieve a modern feel with a flick of a switch. Two modes offer the choice between two different diode types that you can use to match the pedal with either a single coil pickup or humbucker, ensuring you always have the optimum sound. Classic mode offers the natural sound of the pedals effect, while low boost adds a low-end punch and beefy saturation that’s perfect for single coil pickups. A NJM2374A voltage converter doubles the pedals input voltage to offer both 9 and 18 volt options. When put into 9 volts, the pedal produces the classic 808 sound and feel, while 18 volts increases the pedals dynamics and head room to create a big, chunk tone.

Maxon’s Note on Powering the ST-9 Pro+

This pedal’s voltage regulator IC requires a high inrush current of approximately 2000 mA upon startup. When using with a Power Brick such as the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2+, this pedal should be connected to a high current power jack when possible.

If it is not possible to connect to a high current jack, you can power the PAC-9 by leaving a battery in the pedal. Upon initial start-up, unplug the external DC power input cable, engage the pedal, and then plug the DC power input cable back in – the pedal will now power up normally off the external power supply until you power down your pedalboard.

About Maxon

Maxon started out in Japan in 1965 under the name Nisshin Onpa, manufacturing guitar pickups before producing OEM products for other companies. Nisshin Onpa was responsible for designing and manufacturing many legendary pedals while working in partnership with Ibanez, including the TS-808/TS808 and TS9 tube screamers. Although many of the pedals Maxon created were released under the Ibanez name, Maxon was producing pedals under their own name, and in 2002 when the two companies parted way, Maxon began to push its name as a manufacturer of high-quality effects pedals. Today Maxon produce "hard-to-find" vintage type effects pedals, and are used by many artists such as Pearl Jam, Troy Van Leeuwen, Steve Stevens, Brad Whitford, and many more.
