The Ibanez UV7 was the original 7-string Universe guitar that Steve Vai used to pioneer the extra-low sounds of extended range guitars. The new UV70P is a recreation of this instrument and features the same colour scheme along with new modern playing additions to bring this guitar right up to date for modern players.
A basswood body gives a light weight playing feel and a highly adaptable tonality with great sustain and resonance. Steve Vai is known for his diverse tonal range, and the basswood body helps him shape his tone rather than letting the guitar dictate how he should sound.
The neck is crafted from 5 pieces of maple and walnut. This gives a bright tonality and the panga panga fingerboard helps with low-end articulation. The neck is strengthened with titanium rods to enhance its sustain and ensure that the varied tension of 7-strings is kept in check; this creates strong tuning stability and ensures the guitar is more resilient to changes in humidity.
The UV70P has a fast playing neck with 24 jumbo frets giving superior control over the strings. The frets are finished with the Ibanez Premium Fret-Edge Treatment which creates an incredibly smooth playing surface for the left hand. The neck has a flat 400mm radius fingerboard for the ideal balance across all 7 strings, while the thin Wizard-7 neck enables the most technically demanding playing styles.
The body features a deep double cutaway design, so you'll have no problem reaching all 24 frets. If you're seeking to perform the same fingerboard gymnastics that Steve Vai is known for, the UV70P won't hold you back.
DiMarzio Blaze pickups are mounted to the UV70P in the HSH configuration with a 5-way pickup selector. This is one of the most versatile arrangements and offers both humbucker, single coil, and combined coil tones. Here you can create all manner of sounds, right through the spectrum from clean to heavily overdriven.
The Blaze pickups have a high output to maximise the impact of the low 7th string, yet they retain clarity and articulation across all strings. This ensures that the UV70P can handle fast soloing and clean chords, with notes remaining clear even under heavy saturation.
A classic double locking tremolo system gives you the ability to create extreme pitch-shifting effects, safe in the knowledge that your strings will accurately return to pitch after use. Steve Vai is well-known for his whammy bar antics and this system ensures you'll have access to the same techniques including dive-bombs, gargles, shifting harmonics, extreme vibratos, and much more.
