Caroline Guitar Company Kilobyte Lo-Fi Delay Pedal

The Caroline Guitar Company Kilobyte Lo-Fi Delay is a truly unique digital delay pedal that is analogue voiced with degradation on the trails and oscillation features. This delay pedal keeps the dry signal path analogue and pure while the delay signal is processed through a Lo-Fi chip designed for karaoke machines and kids' toys which harnesses a smashed up retro tone that is added to your analogue dry signal. The Kilobyte has a 'havoc' button, which provides a momentary latch and sends the pedal into infinite oscillation.

Kilobyte, The Kickstarter Kid

The Caroline Kilobyte Lo-Fi delay pedal is the only delay pedal featured in the Caroline Guitars range. The pedal came to life through a kickstarter campaign set up by the company in 2013, the company achieved it's goal by the 4th day of a 12 day campaign.

Lo-Fi Repeats with Infinite Oscillation

The Kilobyte uses a low fidelity digital delay chip designed for karaoke machines and kids? toys on top of your analog signal path to create a truly unique sounding delay that is crunchy yet cutting. The pedal also features a unique Havoc button which sends your repeats into infinite oscillation, the havoc button is controlled by a momentary foot switch which gives you complete control and is ideal for tying together sections of a set or a song.

Dynamic Range of Delay and Control

Definition and clarity can be a big problem when using delay in conjunction with other effects or in a band setting. The Kilobyte has attack and level controls which combat this problem, the level control, much like a 'mix' or 'amount' accurately feeds increasing levels of the delay signal to the output of the pedal which means you can blend your dry and wet perfectly. The attack control allows you to define how prominent the wet signal is at the output stage, the combination of these two parameters allow you to dial up everything from crisp, clean slapbacks to dirty, muted echoes and loud, powerful repeats.

Control Knob Functions

  • Level (Top Left): The level knob controls the overall volume of the repeats relative to your original signal.
  • Attack (Top Right): The attack knob adjusts the gain in the repeater preamp, allowing you to boost or overdrive the echoes.
  • Sum (Bottom Left): The sum knob is the number of repeats; set this high and this pedal can run away and self oscillate.
  • Clock (Bottom Right): The clock knob sets the amount of delay time
  • Modulation (Small Middle Knob): The mod knob controls a gentle amount of pitch shifting in the repeats. The mod knob was designed by Jack DeVille at Mr. Black Pedals.
  • Havoc (Bottom Right Footswitch): The havoc mode is controlled with a momentary footswitch, hold it down to create infinite oscillations that are more clear and focused than just increasing the sum.
  • Bypass (Bottom Left Footswitch): The bypass footswitch is the on/off switch for the pedal.
